6 Bedroom Scents We Love

It’s no secret that scent is one of the most powerful senses humans possess. A simple sniff of a familiar smell can evoke all sorts of feelings and memories. Not to mention that research suggests that certain scents also have the power to impact our physical health, by helping to relieve stress, relax the body, and achieve a better night’s sleep.

Since we are all about ensuring the best sleep possible, we’ve gathered our favorite bedroom scents that promise a solid night of shuteye. Whether you opt for these fragrances in the form of candles, mist, or diffusers, all of these soothing smells are proven to promote rest and relaxation –so you can unwind before bedtime and hopefully catch some quality ZZZs. From lavender to geranium, here are six bedroom aromas we can’t live—or sleep well—without.

1. Lavender

Long celebrated for its calming effects and ability to combat anxiety, the smell of lavender is clinically proven to slow down the nervous system, which relaxes the body and mind to improve sleep quality.  Try picking up a lavender-infused candle or mist to score some sound slumber.

2. Vanilla

Along with being a noted stress reliever and relaxer, vanilla is often used in aromatherapy to stabilize heart rates and reduce blood pressure. So keep a vanilla-scented oil diffuser on your nightstand or inhale some organic essential oil before bedtime and you’ll never count sheep again.

3. Jasmine

Known for its soft but super sweet scent, jasmine is a surprisingly powerful sleep aid. Not only is it packed with stress-fighting and sleep-inducing properties, research shows that the smell of jasmine works just as well as valium for calming the nervous system—sans all the pesky side effects.

4. Chamomile

Chamomile is famous for its soothing effects; that’s why you find it in everything from bedtime teas to body lotion. No wonder so many people opt to use a chamomile-infused candle or linen spray in their bedroom.

5. Bergamot

Bergamot is a unique type of orange tree and its oil is derived from the rinds of its oranges. Along with appeasing anxiety, a quick sniff of this citrusy scent will also quell negative thoughts and feelings. Keep a stash of essential oil in your nightstand or spray some bergamot-infused room mist around your bedroom before bedtime and you’ll sleep like a baby.

6. Geranium

A totally natural sedative, geranium has long been the go–to scent for aromatherapy enthusiasts trying to combat insomnia and other stress-related hardships. Get a good whiff of this rosy fragrance via an aroma diffuser or candle and you’ll be off to dreamland in no time.

Not only are certain scents powerful enough to relieve anxiety and reduce stress, some can actually help you fall—and stay—asleep at night. So before you find yourself tossing and turning in bed again, opt for a candle, aroma diffuser, or spray in your bedroom made with one of our favorite sleep-inducing fragrances instead.
