1. What prompted you to start your own business and were there any hesitations that you pushed passed?
I started making Blender Bombs for the clients that I was training and they just kept asking for more! The business grew organically. There was nothing like Blender Bombs on the market so I saw a need for it and filled it. I also selfishly wanted Blender Bombs for my own convenience.
2. When did you start becoming involved in the wellness industry and how do you feel about it's rapid growth?
After I graduated from college in 2015, I moved to Charleston, SC and became a personal trainer and started making Blender Bombs. It was at that time that I began really focusing on my own personal health and wellness and got involved in the wellness industry. I’m glad that the wellness industry is growing! I think it’s important for everyone to care about what they’re putting into their bodies. I hope that it continues to grow so more and more people get bit by the wellness bug.
3. Tell us about Blender Bombs and their benefits.
Blender Bombs are small, nutrient dense balls made up of nuts and seeds! You can add them into your smoothie or eat them plain as a snack. When added to your smoothie, along with fruits and vegetables, they create a meal replacement. They are full of all the essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, fiber, omega-3s, and most importantly they help to keep your blood sugar levels from spiking too high, which is what keeps people feeling full.
4. Where do you see Blender Bombs going and how would you love to expand?
My hope is that Blender Bombs are available to everyone - all over the world. We are also working every day to expand our product line to make it easier for people to make delicious smoothies and eat delicious snacks. We also plan to expand into big retailers so we can lower our costs (thanks to volume breaks), which will then make BBs more available and affordable for everyone.
5. What has been the best advice you have received business wise?
Go with your gut! Always. Always. Always.
6. How does sleep factor into your day to day work life?
I think that getting enough sleep is SO important! To me, it’s just as important as the food you eat. I try to get around 8 hours a night because that’s what makes me feel the best. I’m simply not a morning person so I don’t try to force myself to be one. I usually start my day around 9am. I also try to take one morning a week to sleep in and have some personal time away from work to relax. I have been bad about this lately but will get back into it next week!
7. What is your wind-down routine?
I like to hang out with my friends, go for a leisurely walk (no music, no podcasts), cook a delicious and healthy meal, or play with my cats during the evening. Honestly it’s mainly just chillin’ with my cats. It always does the trick.
