Bathroom Trends to Try in 2020

A new decade definitely calls for a new look for your bathroom.

Dec 03, 2019

Looking to tackle a bathroom renovation in the new year? To help jump-start your mood board, we’ve scoured the market to find out what new products and styles trend-setting brands and designers are currently obsessing over.

Home and work life may be blending more and more, but the bathroom remains a “do-not-disturb” zone where spa-ing takes priority over emailing. Many emerging trends take their inspiration from Japanese design and its focus on natural materials and dark, sleek finishes. In 2020, we won’t be able to get enough of:

Matte Black and Gunmetal Hardware

Polished nickel and gold may have their place in traditional designs, but these dark, textural finishes look chic with any style. Play up their industrial side with concrete walls and counters, use them to give warm wood a modern edge, or incorporate to emphasize the simple elegance of white marble: these finishes look great with any style, yet always feel special.

Freestanding Tubs

Is there really anything more enticing than a warm soak on a cold winter night? A hot bath is a simple luxury many of us crave, and making the space for a soaking tub in your bathroom layout helps encourage mindfulness and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Matte white, black, and stone-like finishes play up the natural curves of ergonomic egg-shape baths and feel buttery-smooth on the skin.

Wood-look tile floor

A popular option for homeowners who want the timeless look of wood in a more durable finish, porcelain tiles imprinted with a wood grain are stain resistant, more impermeable than ceramic tile, and durable (there’s a low chance of any cracking or warping in porcelain with fluctuating humidity and heat.) And if you’re considering installing an in-floor heating system, porcelain is one of the most efficient conductors. New printing technology gives these tiles a three-dimensional grain finish that is almost impossible to differentiate from real wood—and goes a long way in making your bathroom look less utilitarian.

Plush, neutral towels

Nothing says spa more than a set of ridiculously soft towels just waiting for you to dry off in. Our bath sheets are OEKO-TEX® certified and are 820 GSM—making them a premium, luxury weight and super absorbent. Shop our Super-Plush Bundle for a set of matching towels, washcloths, and bathmat in your neutral color of choice.

Floating vanities

Ideal for building in hidden storage without using up floorspace in a bathroom, floating vanities are both stylish and practical. These units attach to the wall and include a sink integrated with a small countertop, with storage drawers below. Lifting the solid base off the floor helps reduce its weight in the space, plus provides a little extra room for little necessities: a stool for brushing teeth in a kid’s bathroom, a waste bin, or baskets to corral extra towels and linens.

Backlighting

Nowhere is lighting more vital than in the room where we get ready each morning. New mirrors backlit with LED lights and under-the-counter LED strips provide soothing ambient lighting that won’t create harsh shadows. Many backlit mirrors new to the market also include dimming capabilities, so you can set the perfect glow during your daily routine.
