Anatomy of Our Cotton Sheets
We have the best sheets in the business, but how? To explain, we have to delve deep into the science of fabric and weaving. Let us break it down for you.
Does Thread Count Matter?
THREAD COUNT: the number of threads woven together in a square inch of fabric. Is bigger really better? Not when it comes to thread counts. Anything in excess of 500 is typically just weaker, lower-grade cotton fibers woven together to appear stronger but just…aren’t. And the feel? Ick. We source only the finest 100% long-staple cotton, ensuring the quality of our yarns and weave provide you with long-lasting sheets that get softer with every wash.
Long Fibers
At Brooklinen, we only use long-staple cotton because it produces the longest, strongest, and finest fibers in the world. When it comes to cotton—a longer staple is a better staple. Longer cotton fibers can be spun into stronger, finer yarns, and produce extremely smooth and supple weaves (like ours). Shorter fibers can poke out of the weave, leading to a coarser, weaker fabric (like theirs).
Single-Ply Yarn
We exclusively use single-ply yarn because it produces the finest, strongest threads. It can only be spun from long-staple cotton, that results in light, soft, yet extremely long-lasting sheets. Multi-ply yarns are a group of weaker fibers twisted together to create false strength. They use mostly lower-grade, shorter-staple cottons, which result in thicker, coarser and heavier threads.
