Five Home Decor Essentials That Promote Healthy Hair and Skin

From waffle towels to houseplants and beyond, these decorative accents will help make your home—and you—look better.

If you think your home decor can’t affect the way you look, then you’re seriously mistaken. Believe it or not, certain fabrics, materials, and decorative accents actually promote healthier hair and skin, while others can trigger everything from tangles to breakouts. To prove our point, we rounded up a handful of home essentials that can improve the appearance of your hair and skin. From waffle towels to houseplants and more, here are five items that will help make your home—and you—look better.

1. Silk Bedding Accents
This is a public service announcement: Sleeping on silk can reduce fine lines in your skin and keep your hair soft and tangle-free. Dermatologists say that if you swap out your current pillowcases with tightly woven natural silk ones, both your hair and skin will stay smooth and hydrated while you sleep, resulting in less wrinkles and tangles in the morning.

Do yourself a favor and invest in a Mulberry Silk Pillowcase, eye mask, and scrunchies to ensure that the only fabric touching your hair and skin at night is one that combats fine lines and frizziness.

2. Waffle Towels
If you aren’t drying your naturally curly or wavy hair with a waffle towel, you’re doing it wrong. Composed of 100% Turkish Cotton, Brooklinen’s Waffle Bath Sheets and Towels boast an extra smooth weave that absorbs water faster while creating less friction, so your hair is less likely to tangle and frizz than when using a standard-weave towel.

3. Jersey Loungewear
If you aren’t already hip to the skin-boosting benefits of jersey loungewear, then now’s the time to smarten up. Made of a blend of breathable cotton and ultra-soft modal, sleeping (or lounging around in) jersey garments, such as the Clinton Dress and the Clark Tank, will allow for better air circulation, so you’ll produce less sweat and acne-causing skin sebum while wearing them.

4. Houseplants
Never underestimate the skin and hair-improving impact of houseplants in your home. Gorgeous leafy green plants naturally release moisture and oxygen into the air, resulting in better indoor air quality and more hydrated skin and hair. Place some pretty houseplants in stylish planters, like the Bird Nest Fern in Medium Hyde Planter or the Monstera in Medium Grant Planter in your bedroom or home office so you can reap the air-purifying benefits of houseplants while you WFH and sleep.

5. Alarm Clock
Make no mistake about it: Nothing is better for your hair and skin—and your overall health—than following a solid sleep schedule. Employ a sleek and reliable clock with a digital beep alarm, like the Hotel Clock or the Wideboy Clock, on your bedside table to ensure that you go to bed and wake up around the same time every time every day. This will help regulate your body’s internal clock, so you can fall asleep faster and wake up more fresh faced in the morning, with less tossing and turning in between.
